Mike Phillips
Compliance and Risk Manager

Joined Equilibrium in 2018

I started in financial services almost 20 years ago when I signed on as a graduate trainee at Royal London working in compliance. I’ve continued in compliance, having worked for large insurers, networks of smaller advisers and also as a compliance consultant.

Everyone in compliance says they have good attention to detail – that is true of me, but I also love financial planning and talking through the complicated options that come with advice. I particularly enjoy pension planning.

Prior to joining Equilibrium, I worked on Paradigm’s technical consultancy team for seven years. I chose to move to Equilibrium based on their reputation and the positive feedback I had heard over the years through word of mouth. I’ve worked for many years giving compliance advice to financial advisers, so I know a good company when I see it. When I decided that the time was right to drop consultancy and work directly for a firm of advisers, there was only one choice for me.

Outside of work, I’m a keen cricket fan – red ball, not white ball – and still regularly delude myself that the England selectors will feel that my skills (or lack of them) are the answer to the test team’s top order woes.

My wife and I try to spend as much time as we can with our two teenagers, quietly dreading the day they head off to university (the house will be so quiet!).
